Qualified, trained and experienced TAs are only as effective as their deployment and management allows.
Teachers
- retain responsibility for the teaching and learning of the pupils in their classes
They must:
- understand the purpose of additional adults in the classroom, TAs or HLTAs
- know and understand the skills and background of each TA working in their class
- create working partnerships and explicit systems
- create planning and feedback opportunities with the TAs
- ensure the TA understands the learning objective of each lesson with which they are involved
- knows the particular needs and strengths of the pupils with which they are to work
- has access to all necessary resources and equipment
- Ensure that HLTAs who take their class in their absence are fully planned and prepared, and
- feedback appropriately
- are competent to advance the learning of the pupils
