     Qualified, trained and experienced TAs are only as effective as their deployment and management allows.

Teachers

  • retain responsibility for the teaching and learning of the pupils in their classes
They must:
  • understand the purpose of additional adults in the classroom, TAs or HLTAs
  • know and understand the skills and background of each TA working in their class
  • create working partnerships and explicit systems
  • create planning and feedback opportunities with the TAs
  • ensure the TA understands the learning objective of each lesson with which they are involved
    • knows the particular needs and strengths of the pupils with which they are to work
    • has access to all necessary resources and equipment
  • Ensure that HLTAs who take their class in their absence are fully planned and prepared, and
    • feedback appropriately
    • are competent to advance the learning of the pupils
